PENDLETON, NY (WKBW) - They came from almost every local law enforcement department. Cops on two legs, and four, lined up to salute Rocky.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Department K-9 died in the line of duty last week. A loss for the department and especially for his partner and handler Deputy Craig Beiter.

"He always made sure I came home at night, safe and sound, back to my kids," said Beiter.

"He wasn't simply dad's partner. He was a part of our family and belonged to all of us," said Beiter's wife Jennifer. "Rocky was Craig's partner, defender and friend. He was, in the words of the Sheriff, a crime-fighter, a special dog, an invaluable asset and valued member of the force."

Rocky, 2, died last week when he fell 60 feet from the roof of the old St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara Falls while searching for burglary suspects.
