NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW) - 75 men and women from the 107th Airlift Wing out of Niagara Falls are now downstate as the cleanup effort continues in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
The guard members, who all volunteered for the deployment, are part of a nearly 2,300 member force ordered into action by Governor Andrew Cuomo to respond to the storm.
"For me it really gives me a great sense of pride that we can help the citizens of New York State. When people need help, we're going to be able to be there to give them whatever support they need," said Lt. Col. Ken Kieliscez, who was deployed to NYC last year in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.
The guard members will be based at Camp Smith, located north of Manhattan.
