Meet Marcel Dareus

July 29, 2011 Updated Jul 29, 2011 at 11:22 PM EDT

PITTSFORD, NY ( WKBW / ) Buffalo's newest Bill, Marcel Dareus, speaks out from day one of training camp.

Watch for complete coverage from St. John Fisher College on Channel 7's Eyewitness Sports, Your Official Station Of The Buffalo Bills!

On continuing with his grass cutting business:

I don’t know if I’m going to have time to do that. I really like doing that and getting out there with the guys.

On how exciting it is to begin his professional career:

It’s great. No school. It’s great to just focus on football and something to work your butt off for.

On the first time he saw his contract and signed it:

The same thought that’s been going through my mind that I finally made it. The draft came along, the combine, all the workouts, it’s all worth it. It paid off to the point that I get to sit down and sign my name. It’s all mine.

On having first day nerves:

I have no reason to be nervous. All of us play the same sport. We all play football. I’m just happy to be here for the most part.

On how important it was to get to today (first day of training camp):

First day of camp is like the first day of school. You don’t want to miss out on anything. We went over a bunch of stuff before we got here and I didn’t want to miss anything with the team. And any chance we get to be with the team, I want to be there and do the best I can.

On if he feels any responsibility to helping the last rank run defense:

To be honest, not at all. As a team we all come together. Stopping the run is not up to an individual person, it’s not an individual thing. It’s for the whole team to come together. I’m just a piece to come help and I’m going to try the best way I can. Whatever they want me to do - any position, any down - I’m just going to do the best I can.

On the feeling of being behind as a rookie this particular off-season:

Surprisingly no. I don’t feel like I’m behind at all. I was able to get on top of it with George Wilson, who really kept me on top of my game. We have the same agent, so we stayed in contact. I don’t feel like I’m behind at all. I’m right there with them ready to go.

On what he needs to learn defensively to be ready:

A few words, terminology-wise, but for the most part just get out there and get the speed of the game, gel as a team, get our timing down and for the most part just get ready to go.

On how he stayed in shape this off-season:

My God-Brother is a personal trainer. We worked out in Atlantic Station. We used the weight room and got a good body workout.

On how it will feel to be out in front of the fans and getting to wear a Bills jersey:

The fan base is just like Tuscaloosa. They love football. They love their team no matter what’s going on. They’re always there for support. For them to finally come out to see me and me to finally see them, I’m happy.

On having a grudge against Auburn guys:

I think only on the field. Everyone wants to win. I don’t care who’s on what side of the ball, I want to win. I want to win every time, every play. I have nothing against them when we’re off the field, but when I’m on the field against Auburn all I see are orange and blue.

On what he buy first after signing his contract:

I want to do the best for me and take little investment as possible and try to make it work for me.
