MEDINA, NY (WKBW) -- A 77-year-old Village of Medina man is dead after being the victim of a violent home invasion and burglary.

According to the Journal-Register in Medina, the victim was beaten and robbed after waking early Monday morning to find two or three intruders in his home.

The homeowner, listed as 77-year-old Homer Marciniak, sought help after the attack from a neighbor and called an ambulance. According to a neighbor, Marciniak was taken to an area hospital, and was released later that day.

Around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, Marciniak apparently collapsed in his home, and was again taken by ambulance to a hospital where he later died.

Neighbors say Marciniak had a bad heart and underwent heart surgery last year, and believe the attack may have contributed to his death.

Police and the DA's office are not commenting on the case at this time as it is an on-going investigation.
