(Lackawanna, N.Y.) Father Nelson Baker's cause for Sainthood took a giant step forward in January when the Pope decreed he was "venerable"

Saturday, thousands attended special services celebrating that announcement.

Mass was held at the church Father Baker built in the 1920's; Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna, NY.

So many people expressed an interest in attending Saturday's "Mass of Thanksgiving," that the Basilica had to issue tickets.

A standing-room-only crowd of faithful from all over Western New York prayed just a few feet from where Father Baker actually rests inside the Basilica.

WKBW.COM carried a pool feed of Father Baker's "Mass of Thanksgiving" live on our website Saturday.

Those in attendance later told Eyewitness News that the event was inspiring. All were hopeful that the Vatican will move quickly to someday declare Father Nelson Baker a saint.
