BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) While much of the nation gets to sleep in late and watch football on New Year's Day, there are those you use the holiday to travel back home after Christmas vacation.

At the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, things got busier as the day went on with many travelers opting to take morning flights.

Several arriving passengers told Eyewitness News that things were hectic in larger cities because of the big crowds.

For most people who had time off, it is back to school and work on Thursday..

"I wanted to get as much time with my family as I possibly could but I have to get back to work," said Caryn Selagy, who was on her way from Buffalo to Philadelphia.

Several travelers said they enjoy flying on New Year's Day because the decorations are up and people are still in a holiday mood - and best of all - the flights are cheaper.
