Man with Loaded Gun Arrested at Buffalo Airport

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW) -- A Florida man faces a state weapons charge, after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers found a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag Thursday.

An officer at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport security checkpoint noticed the weapon when the man's bag was sent through the x-ray machine.

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) was called, and the man was arrested on a state weapons charge. NFTA officers confiscated the handgun.

TSA officers say the unidentified man was scheduled to fly to Tampa.

This is the third gun found at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport this year.

According to the TSA, passengers can legally fly with guns in their luggage if the weapon is unloaded and in a checked bag. Weapons must also follow strict packaging criteria, and be reported to the TSA before checking the bag.
