Man Who Helped Catch Robbers Speaks Out

Lockport, NY

Four people are now behind bars for attempting to rob a gas station in Lockport one suspect is a student at Niagara County Community College.

On Saturday just after midnight Shane Bishop was inside Pat's Place having a drink when he saw something strange outside of the window.

"We look across the street and there was somebody getting jumped in the store," said Bishop.

Someone was getting jumped. Bishop's 31 year old friend Pauly, a clerk at the Walnut Street Gulf Station across the street from Pat's Place.

Police say Jessica Burgess entered the store and maced Pauly while Ashley Bivins and James McClendon followed behind trying to break into the cash register, then after a struggle Pauly was able to escape through the front door.

"He ran out of the store which wasn't in their plan and they actually fought with him at the front door to keep him in the store so he couldn't go for help he fought his way out," said Chief Larry Eggert, of the Lockport Police Department.

That's when Bishop and several other friends jumped into action. They held McClendon and Burgess until police came.

But 18 year old NCCC student Chelsee Williams waiting outside in the getaway car and Ashley Bivins got away they were arrested Tuesday, three days later.

Police are now investigating whether the four are connected to at least seven robberies at 7-11 stores in niagara falls
all four are facing second degree robbery and assault charges.

One of people who helped catch the suspects was injured. She was holding down the male suspect who punched her several times but she is expected to be okay.
