ORCHARD PARK, NY (WKBW) - Friends and family of 26 year old David Greken Jr. of Palmira, reported him missing after Thursday Night's Buffalo Bills game. Gerken had been ejected from Ralph Wilson Stadium around half time because of disorderly behavior. An early morning search of the wooded area behind the stadium, discovered his body in the bed of Smokes Creek, at the bottom of a ravine.
"He was picked up by the Erie County Medical Examiners office and taken to the office for an autopsy. At this time, the preliminary results are that it was an accidental drowning," Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said Friday afternoon.
The investigation will continue to try and piece together what exactly happen to Gerken and whether or not alcohol was a factor in his death. The Buffalo Bill's released a statement today saying; "We are deeply saddened to hear of this news this morning. While the loss of life is always tragic, the loss of a young life is even more so. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family. We are currently cooperating with law enforcement officials to find out the details of this unfortunate incident."
"The behavior at Ralph Wilson stadium can be unruly at times...especially at night games and we haven't had one for quite some time," Said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. He says that it appears that all proper procedures were followed Thursday night.
"We are going to continue to look at this to find out exactly what happened. I think it starts with the fans. It starts with the individuals who are going into that stadium," Poloncarz added. The game netted 24 arrests and seven D-W-I arrests after the game. A Canadian man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car after the game .
