Carlton, NY (WKBW) - Police make an arrest in Orleans County, after a woman's body was found along the side of a roadway on Monday morning.

In Carlton, a small community just a few miles from the Lake Ontario shoreline, sheriff's deputies are trying to figure out exactly what happened and why.

Early in the morning, a police helicopter hovered overhead, while deputies investigated the small town murder.

Chief Deputy Tom Drennan explained "A school bus driver from the Albion school district contacted us when he saw the body on the side of the road."

Deputies believe 61-year-old Fred Miller and his girlfriend, 53-year-old Rachel Miller, got into a fight at the residence. The house was not far from where Rachel Miller's body was found.

Orleans County Sheriff Scott Hess said "There was a great deal of blood on her body. Her body's been taken to Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and for forensic examination."

Deputies say that fight moved outside and down Oak Orchard River Road.

Miller's body was found about 300 yards from the house, near a guardrail off the road.

Fred Miller has been charged with second degree murder.

Authorities say Miller died from blunt force trauma, and that a key piece of evidence was found near her body.

However, there are still a lot of unknowns, including the extent of the injuries, what sparked the fight and if this is a case of domestic violence.

The Orleans County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police are still investigating this case.

Investigation also say that Fred Miller is cooperating with authorities.
