Man Accused of Lying About Job to Collect Unemployment

August 18, 2014 Updated Aug 18, 2014 at 3:15 PM EDT

North Tonawanda, NY (WKBW) State police have arrested 37-year-old Robert Yanacek, accusing him of lying about his employment status to the NYS Department of Labor during two separate periods.

An investigation by the Department of Labor found that from March to November 2012, and again from March to July 2013, Yanacek was employed in Tonawanda and collecting unemployment benefits. He's accused of intentionally lying about his job.

During the two periods investigated by the Department of Labor, investigators say Yanacek fraudulently collected more than $7,000 from the state by claiming he was unemployed.

Yanacek is charged with third-degree grand larceny, first-degree falsifying business records, and first-degree offering to file a false instrument. He was arrested, processed, and released with an appearance ticket from the state police barracks. Yanacek is scheduled to appear in City of Niagara Falls Court on August 25, 2014.
