Buffalo's own nail polish line is painting support for cities across the region.

"I'm a big fan of Rust Belt cities like the old industrial cities and watching them reemerge and recreate themselves," said Lisa Menchetti, founder of Gridlock Lacquer. "I thought it would be cool to start with something in my hometown and pay a little tribute towards that."

After years of research and planning, Menchetti created the nail polish line using a base that is made in the USA. Then she adds her own color and pigment, even glitter and more to create nail polish with unique names like Beef on Weck, The 716 or Winging It. There are ten in the Buffalo collection.

Gridlock Lacquer also features a Niagara Falls line with nine colors including Kiss the Mist or Grape Expectations. Menchetti has taken the idea to Rochester and now says she wants to drum up support for colorful cities near Buffalo and beyond.

"I just want to continue to expand to cities that I think need the love a little bit more than some of the huge cities like New York and LA, that everyone is talking about," she said. "I think that Buffalo and Niagara Falls cities, that we know so well in this area, they're really cool and accepting of ideas like this."

Menchetti hopes to add more cities like
Cleveland next year. And soon, she'll be coming out with new seasonal colors for her current collections, along with holiday colors.

You can buy Gridlock Lacquer online at or at area stores like Spoiled Rotten on Elmwood and Buffalo Adore on Abbott. It is also sold downtown at the Ellicott Square Building and the Market Arcade or at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
