BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Construction crews began the daunting task of pouring more than 3700 cubic yards of concrete inside the newly redesigned wading pool at Martin Luther King Park in Buffalo. The $4.5 million project is almost finished and scheduled to open by the end of August. The area will be soon become a year-round destination for families by providing: ice skating in the Winter, a reflection pond in the Spring and Fall, and a splash pad with animated water displays in the Summer.
"There's two hundred computerized water jets to create dancing water with lights that change colors," said Robert Frazer of Wendel Companies.
The construction is promising to Sam Herbert, who's been pushing to revitalize the area for 15 years.
"We can only make the park safe if people use it," said Herbert. "I dream someday to walk in the park and see every nationality enjoying themselves at Martin Luther King Park, that's my dream."
Construction Managers expect the project to be finished by the end of August.
