Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) -- It sounds like a Hollywood screenplay. A depressed city that only has its sports team to celebrate...gets a big helping hand and a trip to a foreign land. It was all the elements of a big time international sporting event Wednesday night...multiple national anthems...the ceremonial coin toss and a big trophy. This is the inaugural Lord Bedlington Cup Match at Robert Rich Sr. All-High Stadium in Buffalo.

But who is Lord Bedlington of England? Well, Robert Rich Jr. is. His ancestry led him to Bedlington and his wife purchased the title for him. Rich became a major sponsor of the city's popular football team...soccer to those of us here in the United States...funding a new field and scoreboard. Their opponent, the local FC Buffalo team scores the first goal...and that delights their supporters. The home town team would come out on top...making this family night a winner.

The Bedlington team will be in town for a few more days. They will play a few more matches and take part in youth soccer clinics.
