LOCKPORT, NY (WKBW) - The sound of chainsaws filled the streets on Lockport Thursday night after high winds pummeled Niagara County, ripping trees from the ground and leaving thousands of residents without power.
"Next we call the insurance company," said Chris Schaus, who returned to his Spruce Street home to find the tree in front of his house resting on his roof.
"I always thought in the back of my mind that just might come down and today was the day," he said.
Some city streets are blocked by downed trees and power lines. City crews are working to clear them as quickly as possible.
Utility crews have a more challenging task as they work to restore power to 3,500 city residents.
