LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) - Authorities said the victim Dale Billips, 55, was walking eastbound on Transit Road at Robinson Road when a red Nissan Versa struck him.
"There were four occupants in the vehicle that struck the subject. He hit the windshield, then was thrown back on the road," New York State Police Sergeant Samuel Taglienti said.
Billips was taken to the Eastern Niagara Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Charges have not been filed against the driver at this time.
Authorities and drivers who know the area said this intersection has been a problem in the past.
"It's like any other big intersection. It gets congested there and it's busy. We have had quite a few accidents there," Taglienti said.
Drivers that we talked to said there are other dangerous roads in the area where necessary safety changes have been made, including the instillation of sidewalks.
"On Dysinger Road they put rumble strips there because many people got killed when drivers crossed the white line," Farrell said.
Although drivers and pedestrians must be cautious, Drivers said authorities are also doing their part.
"I know State Police are always up and down here, and they write tickets," Farrell said.
New York State Police said the case is still being investigated.
