BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - With Black Friday and Cyber Monday now behind us, organizations nationwide, including right here in Western New York, are participating in "Giving Tuesday," to help those in need.

#GivingTuesday is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season.

It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.

Some local organizations are taking part in #GivingTuesday. The American Red Cross is using today to not only try and raise donations, but to also increase awareness about it's services.

Another local organization taking part is The Alix Rice Peace Park Foundation.

Alix Rice was killed by a drunk driver, Dr. James Corasanti, in July of 2011 while riding her long-board on Heim Road in Amherst.

The foundation is trying to raise funds to purchase and build a community skate park in her honor.
