Kenmore, N.Y. (WKBW) - Chef's Restaurant, The Plaka Restaurant, Louie's Texas Red Hots and Just Pizza have one thing in common. They are all "mom and pop" shops that have lasted decades and have grown into successful businesses.
"Our 20 year anniversary is this Friday," Owner of The Plaka Telly Gogos said.
What makes these places so sustainable? Telly Gogos is the owner of Plaka Restaurant on Deleware in Kenmore. He said it's about personal interaction. Goggos said it is a small touch that goes a long way.
"Our food is homemade and fresh. We treat everyone like family. We know them and call them by name," Gogos said.
Craig Spencer and his family are regulars at The Plaka.
"They also know that my daughter likes strawberry jelly. When she comes in she gets strawberry jelly. You can't get that anywhere else," Spencer said.
Jim Boy is part of the coffee crew.
"The coffee is good, the waitresses are nice and we have a regular crew that comes here every morning," Boy said.
Jim Breier Manages Chef's Restaurant. He said a good reputation can take you a long way but you have to keep the image going once people sit down to eat.
"They train us to treat everybody like family. We strive from the time a person walks in the door to the time he leaves to give them a great experience,' Breier
Telly said although business is good, it's not always easy, especially in these economic times.
"There is a lot of competition and food prices have really changed in the passed five years. Things like meat and cheese have skyrocketed," Gogos said.
They say with regulars like the Spencers.
"I love bacon," Aubrey Spencer said.
And Mr. Boy and his coffee club.
"We can always find a seat," Boy said.
Gogos and Breier agree these businesses will continue for decades to come.
