BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - The Webby Awards is the leading international award ceremony honoring excellence on the internet. Some nominees include Google, Nike, The New York Times, and Buffalo-based advertising agency Crowley Webb.
The agency is nominated for the People's Voice Award for event websites for the site they created for the 2013 Western New York Addy Awards.
Art Director Lillian Selby talked to Eyewitness News about the nomination.
"It's exciting," said Selby. "It gives us more motivation to keep working hard and thinking of new ways to approach projects, especially from a digital standpoint."
Over 11,000 companies entered the events category and Crowley Webb was one of only five chosen.
When Crowley Webb found out about the nomination, it took a little time to believe it. As soon as they knew, it was time to get the word out.
"We've been sharing it and trying to get the vote out because we're up against a lot of amazing sites," said Selby.
Every year, the Advertising Club of Buffalo hosts the Addy Awards and each year, a different agency takes the helm of preparation. This year happened to be Crowley Webb's turn. For the creative of the site, Selby said they wanted to take more of an anthropological approach, and apply the changes in the industry to the design.
"This year, we wanted to go a little deeper with the concept," she said. "We wanted to do something that spoke to our industry as a whole. So thinking of what agencies are facing, a lot of things are changing. We all just have to adapt. That spun the 'Science of Persuasion' concept."
This is Crowley Webb's second nomination in two years, but the first Selby was a part of. I had to ask how it will feel if they win.
"Euphoric," she said. "We might pass out!"
The award Crowley Webb is nominated for will be voted on by the public. Voting is opened until Thursday at 11:59 p.m.
