BUFFALO, N.Y. ( WKBW ) She has a passion for Buffalo and a head for business. That's why Althea Luerhsen is June's Women in Leadership Honoree.
Eyewitness News is partnering with the Buffalo-Niagara Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners on these reports.
Luerhsen was chosen for all she's accomplished in her short time at Leadership Buffalo. Eyewitness News Anchor Joanna Pasceri has the story.
Only six months on the job, Althea Luerhsen has already made some great strides as executive director of Leadership Buffalo.
Recruitment is up for the year-long program that grooms Buffalo's leaders, from the young to more-seasoned professionals.
Althea brings to Leadership Buffalo razor-sharp business skills that she's developed over the years.
Awards line her office, recognizing the success of her long and varied career. She broke into the business world right after high school, foregoing a college education, but Althea eventually hit a wall in her career without a degree and enrolled in college when she was 32, earning a bachelors and masters while working full time and raising her two children.
She says her life experiences helped her gain the most from her education and allowed her to rise to the top of her field.
Her goal with Leadership Buffalo is to help make Buffalo better. Members of the program explore community issues and even provide their own solutions.
