BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - More than 150 years of history will end Wednesday, the last day of classes at Holy Angels Academy.

Holy Angels opened in 1861, and announced earlier this Spring it didn't have enough money continue for another school years.

A group called "Save Holy Angels" had presented a plan to the academy to keep the school open and pay back the Grey Nuns, who donated $1 million from their own pensions.

The Board of Trustees and Grey Nuns agreed it wasn't the best move because there weren't enough details in the proposal.

In all, Save Holy Angels would have needed to raise $2.5 million.

Wednesday is the last day of classes. Students will take final exams over the next several days and a final farewell party will take place for all current and past students.

Juniors currently enrolled may still be able to receive diplomas in an accelerated program taking place over the summer. The school announced it would offer online courses or a school program if there's enough interest.
