Large Amount of Explosive Materials and Chemicals Confiscated from Williamsville Apartment
Williamsville, NY (RELEASE) - On Wednesday August 8th at about 6:00pm, the Town of Amherst Police Department was alerted to a "shots fired" call on Williamsburg
Square Responding officers heard shots in the area and then encountered Mr. Duncan Badding of 66 Williamsburg Square. Evidence of target practice was visible in the yard and officers made further inquiry. Officers were admitted into the residence and observed firearms, ammunition and suspected home-made explosives. Officers secured the suspect, and requested additional assistance from both County and Federal agencies.
A significant amount of explosive materials and potentially dangerous chemicals were removed, and the scene was decontaminated. At this time, no links to a terrorists police have been discovered, and no specific threats were made. The evidence is being evaluated and federal charges could be forthcoming. Badding is in custody on State charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First degree. The investigation continues, and the scene was processed by officers from the Town of Amherst Police Department, the Erie County Sheriff's Office, and the A.T.F. Also assisting in the incident were officials from the F.B.I, Erie County HAZ-MAT team, Town of Amherst Emergency Services, The Town of Amherst Fire inspector's office the E.C.M.C SMART team and Twin City Ambulance.
This morning the defendant was arraigned in Amherst Town Court by Judge Farrell on the listed charges. He was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $500,000 bond ot $250,00 cash bail.
