ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y (WKBW) Lack of snow is not stopping Holiday Valley from opening this Saturday at 8:30am.

"Oh yeah, we are going to open. We made a lot of snow out there," said Jane Eshbaugh from Holiday Valley.

New computer controlled snow making equipment has helped the resort create a base that will allow it to open four slopes with three lifts operating.

Warm temperatures and below normal snowfall levels have made it hard on many businesses in the ski areas.

"The forecast is not the greatest for snow, so, we are all a little bit nervous," added Jim Carls, owner of Dina's Restaurant in Ellicottville.

The slow start to winter has many people wondering if this will be the second year in a row that Western New York will escape winter's rath.

Last winter ended up being recorded as one on the warmest on record.

"It is just like being a farmer. You have to be an eternal optimist and believe the weather is going to do what it is suppose to do," commented Jane Eshbaugh.

When Holiday Valley opens, they will also be holding a grand-opening for their newly constructed $12-million dollar Holiday Valley Lodge.

The multi-floor facility will allow Holiday Valley to hold conferences year round.

This weekend will also be 'Demo Day's' where manufacturers will show off the the latest in ski equipment.
