Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Some Western New York Catholics took part in a Good Friday service lead by Bishop Edward Kmiec at St. Joseph Cathedral in Downtown Buffalo. This Easter season will most likely be the last for Bishop Kmiec, since he is expected to retire soon. Kimiec will celebrate his 75th birthday in June, an age that Catholic bishops are required under Canon Law to submit their resignation letter to the pope. Kmiec is one of 21 bishops across the United States who will retire this year. All will have to wait for final approval from the pope. In the past, some bishops have been allowed to serve until a replacement can be found.
