New Airport Security Policy for Children Coming Soon

September 14, 2011 Updated Sep 14, 2011 at 9:57 AM EDT

Children under the age of 13 will no longer have to take off their shoes during airport security screenings and will be subjected to fewer pat-downs as part of new Transportation Security Administration strategy that will be enacted over the next few months, according to a story in USA Today.

The new process has been tested at six airports in the U.S., but random searches will still be conducted for children and other passengers to keep the system unpredictable, according to the story.
