WARREN, PA (WKBW) - Something happened Saturday afternoon when Jacob Maynard, 32, fell off his kayak. Family and friends said he disappeared in the water of the Allegheny River.
Annette Maynard of Buffalo never thought that when her brother Jacob went on his Kayaking trip last weekend in the Allegheny River just South of Jamestown in Pennsylvania, that might be the last time she heard from him.
"His brother said the next thing he knew Jacob was screaming for help and then disappeared," Maynard said.
Since Jacob's disappearance, more than a half a dozen emergency crews, including a diving team, have been searching for him. They have scoured the area during the daytime, ceasing their search at night. Authorities said there are also many challenges, including the current, which has made things dangerous for divers. Up until now, they found Jacob's kayak and hat.
"They did find what they think is a body, but the water is too strong. They do think it is him but they're not sure," Maynard said.
Maynard said she was shocked that her brother was struggling with the current and went under because he was an avid kayaker who knew the how to deal with the strong waters.
"Jacob used to go kayaking all the time," Maynard said.
Although he's been missing for nearly four days, Maynard said she is still hopeful.
"I don't think it's him in the water, I just want him to come home," Maynard said.
