Jamestown, NY (WKBW) -- Family, friends, and even strangers paid their respects to Lance Corporal Aaron Swanson Monday. Swanson is laid to rest in Jamestown, not far from his family home in the Village of Lakewood. He graduated from Southwestern Central School in 2007, where he was a Boy Scout. He was well liked both on the track and on the football field. John Mistretta grew up with Swanson. "He was just an amazing guy. Cared about everybody. Always had a smile on his face. I just had to be here for him."
Mistretta was one of dozens of people who lined the streets of Jamestown outside the private funeral services. Former Marine Ron Seeley had a tear in his eye as he paid his respects. "It's just very sad to see a fellow marine pass away." He tells us, "He stood guard for months in the desert, so it's not too much to stand guard for an hour in the cold."
A controversial church based out of Kansas had threatened to protest this Marine's funeral, but to the relief of family and friends, they had no real presence in Jamestown Monday.
