Grand Island, N.Y. (WKBW) - The roof collapsed on the Beaver Island State Park Golf Pro Shop after a fire ripped through the building Friday morning.

Authorities said the building is a complete loss because of a blaze that broke out just after 6 a.m. Friday. Officials are investigating to see exactly what happened.

"We fought the fire in the defensive mode, and took the fire fighters out from underneath because of the collapse and danger inside," Grand Island Fire Department Chief Kevin Koch said.

Arriving crews said the structure was fully engulfed in flames, but this is not the first time something like this has happened there. Another building on the golf course was destroyed about a decade ago.

Officials said this fire might be suspicious.

"We usually use our own investigators, but when it's outside our realm we call in outside investigators. The fire is under investigation and there is potential for suspicious activity, so that's why we called in law enforcement," Koch said.

Investigators do not have an exact dollar amount for damages, but they said it would be significant.

"The pro shop is fully stocked with product," Koch said.

Officials said the park and golf course would remain open.
