Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) – Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has issued a request for proposals for the Webster block, inviting developers locally and nationally to submit a plan to develop the space.

The land is located directly in the shadow of the First Niagara Center, steps from the vibrant Canalside and close to the Metro Rail. These factors make it a very desirable piece of land for potential developers.

Several names have been tossed around as possible bidders. These names include downtown developer Carl Paladino and the Buffalo Sabres. In the past, the Sabres said they would like to buy the land and make it into a public ice skating rink.

"We have no specific preconceived notion. We want something that will be a 24/7 destination. Certainly, something that families and the entire community can enjoy," Mayor Brown said.

Even thought he bids haven’t even come in yet, the Mayor hopes construction will begin by next spring. He also said development of the area will just add to the already growing waterfront. He hopes it will also inspire continued growth in the area.
