HAMBURG, NY ( WKBW ) Channel 7's Jaclyn Asztalos reports high winds caused damage from Buffalo to the southtowns.

High winds began to rip through Western New York Sunday afternoon and early evening, causing damage to some homes and cutting power.

Parts of Hamburg near Walbridge and Mount Vernon on the lake shore were without power for a time Sunday night after power lines were downed.

A Buffalo man tells Eyewitness News he is lucky he escaped from a home with his tenants after some trees crashed into his home and dangled on power lines.

Jaclyn and LIVE EYE photographer Vince Scozzafava were parked at Route 5 Monday morning, where waves as high as 8 feet were crashing into the breakwalls near Hoak's Restaurant and Hoover Beach. That stretch of Route 5 is known as the "car wash" with lake spray blowing over the roadway.

The wind warnings have been cancelled, but lake effect snows are expected to pelt parts of the Southern Tier into Tuesday.
