Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WKBW) – Senator Mark Grisanti and his wife Maria said they are still in shock from the attack that sent them to the hospital, Friday night.

The couple was at the Seneca Niagara Casino for a charity fundraiser. After the event, Grisanti witnessed an argument and tried to break up the fight. He was punched twice. Maria rushed to his side and she was then attacked. She suffered cuts to her head and nose and was treated for a concussion. The couple said they were devastated because their children witnessed the violent ordeal.

“He made a comment like you haven't done *blank* for the Senecas, and hit me in the rib. Then, as I backed up I got hit in the head,” Grisanti said.

The Seneca Nation President Robert Odawi Porter made a comment.

“I would hope for better behavior and conduct from everyone at such an event as this, although it transpired sometime after the gala ended. Sadly, one cannot control individual behavior. On behalf of the Seneca Nation, I extend my heartfelt sympathy to Senator Grisanti, his wife Maria and their family,” Porter said.

We will find out much more about who is responsible for the attack and have the information as it becomes available
