Hamburg, N.Y. (WKBW) - Whether you are a big-time gamer or just love computers, there's a place for you this weekend. It's called the Massive Lanfest.
"It's for gamers and by gamers. It's a non-profit and it's getting together, having a good time," Organizer Ashley Tilly said.
You may be asking what is a Lan?
"Local Area Network. Our own private network to set up our own servers, network, stuff like that so we could play games against each other," Tilly said.
More 150 people of all ages will come to the Hamburg Fairgrounds for a weekend-long event. People even set up camp inside one of the buildings and stay overnight.
"It's just an experience, fantastic. Gaming for three days with people you know and people you don't know," Gamer John Petrillose said.
They said it's those people that make all the difference. Jonathan and Liz Enzinna met eight years ago at Lanfest. Now, they're married with three children.
John Haywood said although he loves computers, it's those relationships that make the weekend worth the while.
"You actually get to know the people and hear them react and it's just satisfaction," Haywood said.
The area you see behind me is called the NOC or Network Control Center. One group of cords runs the entire operation.
"This is the heart of what runs the entire network. This chunk of cables goes out to all the switches out there. Then it all comes back to these switches here so everyone can chit chat with one another," Technical Director Jonathan Enzinna said.
With the temperature around 90 degrees and heat index even higher outside, these gamers said it's the perfect day to get your hand on a controller and come on in.
"It's air conditioned," Enzinna said.
If you think it's all fun and game, there is even more. All the money raised, about $40 a person, will go directly back to charity.
