Thousands of us were caught off guard with the October Storm seven years ago, so now isn't a bad time to start thinking about getting your car ready for winter.
Store manager of Dunn Tire on Sheridan Drive, Nathan Bartek says with as nice as it's been, snow is the last thing on peoples mind right now, that's why its so important to be ready.
He also has some essential items to have and tips to use for this coming winter.
"Staple items you want an emergency roadside kit if anything were to happen, you also want to have a blanket just in case you do get stranded, incase the thruway does get shutdown again like it did a couple years ago. Make sure you're going to stay warm. Pack an extra pair of gloves that's very important. Make sure you're windshield washer fluid is topped off.
Bartek also says having a good set of winter tires is key. "What happens is with an all season tire, they act like steel on the snow and on the ice so winter tires are very important. They're going to stay flexible throughout any type of condition under 45 degrees especially if it's snowing out or if you do hit some ice.
If you somehow end up in a ditch, a small shovel kept in your vehicle could be the item to get you on your way.
If you do hit some deep snow this is going to give you the chance to dig some of the snow out and kind of regain some traction that you're not getting says Bartek.
