BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The Erie County Sheriff's Office said human error caused the accidental release of an inmate over the weekend.

Donovan Devost, 19, was let go following an appearance in Buffalo City Court, said Robert Koch, who supervises the holding center.

"Paperwork was not sent to Buffalo City Court so they were not notified of a detainer," he said.

Devost had a warrant for his arrest from Alden, where he is accused of smashing a window at the Erie County Correctional Facility.

Last month, Awet Gebreysus, 32, was released from the holding center by accident. The Buffalo man, who was being held on attempted murder charges, was back in police custody 21 hours later.

Devost was picked up nearly two full days after his release.
