Town of Lockport, N.Y. (WKBW release) The Niagara County Sheriff's Office said that a male inmate jumped to his death at the Niagara County Jail on Monday morning.

According to a news release from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, the man -- who was about to be transported to state prison to serve a 15-year sentence for attempted rape -- was being transported by corrections officers from his second-floor cell when authorities said he climbed a railing and jumped off headfirst and fell to his death.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the NCSO.
