BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - An inmate at the Erie County Holding Center attempted suicide Wednesday, one day after being incarcerated, according to the Erie County Sheriff's Department.

27-year-old Travis Wilson was arrested on Tuesday on Petit Larceny charges and remanded to the county holding center. On Wednesday, jail officials found Wilson trying to hang himself.

Wilson was being housed in a special detox unit when officials discovered him trying to hang himself from a header in a bathroom stall. A deputy was able to untie him, and Wilson was taken to ECMC where he remains in good condition.

"Based on the facts of the recent attempt and recent suicide, we do not believe that there is anything that we would do any differently in order to catch individuals who might have active suicidal ideation," said Erie County Attorney Cheryl Green.

An inmate at the holding center committed suicide on Saturday, the third suicide at the jail this year.

Since December, there have been four suicides and two attempted suicides, including Wednesday's incident at the holding center.
