AMHERST, NY (WKBW) - An incident involving Amherst Police ended peacefully overnight, when emergency responders took one man into custody and removed a loaded rifle from the location.

Amherst Police responded to a request for a welfare check at a residence in the neighborhood or Brynstone Court and Landings Drive in the Town of Amherst Sunday night.

An out of town relative reported that a middle-aged man at the home appeared to be distraught when she spoke to him on the phone, and he was believed to have access to a weapon.

The man was taken to ECMC where he underwent a mental evaluation. No criminal charges have been filed at this time. Amherst Police did remove a loaded rifle from the residence.
