HAMBURG, NY (WKBW) The husband of 29 year-old Jennifer Martello of Hamburg wants answers tonight.

Shortly after midnight this morning, his wife was found unconscious on the side of Big Tree road where the family lives. She later died at ECMC of her injuries.

“I can barely keep it together. I don't know how I'm going to survive if it weren’t for my daughter I don't know what I would do,” Sam told Eyewitness News.

Sam said his wife went out for a late night walk. She was upset and frustrated after not being offered a job she had applied for. Martello says he begged his wife not to go, and even took her purse away from her. She kept walking. When he saw police lights, he knew something was wrong.

“She was murdered. Whether it was vehicular manslaughter, a hit and run. She was murdered. The person got away,” Martello said.

Police are still trying to investigate the incident, but do say as of now it is unclear whether it was a pedestrian-car accident.

“This was beyond my soul mate...this was beyond my best friend,” Martello said. “This was beyond my companion, she was beyond anything anyone could imagine in a spouse.”

Jennifer worked at Salvatores Italian Gardens as a banquet server, and leaves behind a 14-month-old daughter Amelia.

The investigation will now focus on an autopsy and toxicology reports.
Town of Hamburg Police say they are sending Jennifer’s clothing to labs to see if they contain car paint.

Hamburg Police are also asking anyone with information to give them a call at 649-5111.
