DUNKIRK, NY ( WKBW ) Police say they know who fired a shot from a 30 caliber rifle while hunting, missing his target and hitting a school bus filled with children instead.

Channel 7's Adam Francis is covering this story, and reports that the hunter is facing misdemeanor, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and hunting violation charges.

Police say the individual is a hunter who resides on Route 241 in Conewango, and is an experienced hunter.

The name of the man is not being released until he turns himself in to authorities.

Officials say the incident was unintentional, and want to use this opportunity to stress safety while hunting.

The school students in the bus and the driver from the Randolph School District were not hurt in the Monday morning incident.
