NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) YouthWorks is a Minneapolis based nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for youth to help communities through mission trips.

For a nine week period that extends into August, thirty-thousand middle and high school students will travel to locations in the United States and Canada.

Niagara Falls is one of the locations for YouthWorks 2013.

700 students are expected to arrive weekly in teams of 60-70 to help nonprofit organizations and take part in community based service projects.

The Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., Institute for Civic Engagement at Niagara University is helping coordinate work projects for the students.

"They really fill a gap, particularly in the summer time and during the daytime, because a lot of the volunteers that the organizations generally would have often aren't available during the day or during the week," said Dr. Dave Taylor, executive director of the institute.
