Brocton, NY

Sixteen year old Damon Janes was a beloved young man whose loss is being felt by hundreds in the Brocton and Westfield communities, many who attended a candlelight vigil in honor of Janes on the Brocton High School football field Wednesday night.

Janes' best friend took an emotional tribute lap around the field on Damon's motocross bike. Motocross was one of the many athletic talents of the 16-year old varsity football player.

The scoreboard was lit up with Damon's jersey number 25 and his motocross bike number 711.

The hundreds of people who flooded the field choked back tears as Damon's football jersey number was laid out on the 50-yard line in candles.

Shortly after, his classmates released lanterns into the sky followed by a balloon release by his family.

Damon was critically injured after a helmet to helmet hit during a Friday night game and died three days later.

The high school junior's sudden death has left many in the small Chautauqua County Community shocked.

Damon's family requested the media not to film them at the vigil but a close family friend tells us they appreciate all the support they have been getting.
