GASPORT, NY (WKBW)-Many Western New York Dairy Farmers are urging lawmakers at our nation's capital to reform dairy policies. Many described the current dairy policies as outdated and volatile.

"The milk pricing system is 50 years old," said Roger White of Gasport View Dairy. "Everything else has changed but our milk pricing system hasn't changed with the times. So I think we have to take a very serious look at the system and bring it up to date."

Farmers here believe the proposed Dairy Security Act would help their businesses. The act would stabilize the dairy market by keeping farm prices level during economic or environmental stressors and offers farmer margin insurance. Dairy processors argue the bill would discourage milk exports and would create too much uncertainty in the market.
