Salamanca, NY (WKBW) Construction has started on a new hotel tower at the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel in Salamanca.
The tower will add 200 rooms to the 212 rooms that are already in use at the hotel. The Seneca Nation of Indians and the Seneca Gaming Corporation marked the start of construction with a press conference, Tuesday morning. Seneca Nation officials say the current hotel has been at 96 percent capacity for the past year making the additional rooms a necessity.
The hotel expansion project was initially started back in 2008 but was suspended after the economy became weak. Back in 2008 some steel work was laid down for the new hotel tower before the project was cancelled. This new tower is being built utilizing the pre-existing steel frame.
The project is expected to create 300 construction jobs and 30 hotel positions. The new hotel tower is slated to be open by the winter of 2012.
