BUFFALO, N.Y (WKBW Release) - Alumni of Holy Angels Academy will hold a fundraiser at Fat Bob’s Smokehouse on Monday, May 6th from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
At $25 a person, there will be an open bar, food and snacks, a 50/50 raffle, and a basket raffle. All proceeds will go to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart who have sacrificed over $1 million of their own retirement money, including the sale of their retirement home.
In response to the announcement of the school closing, alumni Gabe Wilson, class of 2007, commented, “I don’t even know how I would react to that news if I were still there (Holy Angels Academy). I can’t imagine not going to school at Holy Angels.”
The news came as a shock to students, alumni, and faculty alike. “Some of these teachers have been with the school for over 20 years. After everything they’ve done for so many women in Western New York, I can’t even stomach the thought of the position they’re now in, “ said Emily Marciniak, class of 2007. All teachers of Holy Angels Academy are invited to attend the fundraiser for free.
The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart founded Holy Angels Academy in 1861. Since it’s inception, 151 classes have graduated from the school. The class of 2013 will mark the 152nd and final class to graduate with a Holy Angels Academy high school diploma.
“We’re expecting a generous turn out on Monday,” said Marciniak. “So many in the community have already stepped forward looking for ways to help out. I’m excited to see both our alumni and our extended Holy Angels Academy ‘family’ come together to give back and show support for these beautiful women who’ve given their lives for all of us.”
