Hochul Issues Statement on Extension of a Middle-Class Tax Cut for 160 Million American Families

February 17, 2012 Updated Feb 17, 2012 at 1:52 PM EDT

(WKBW release) The following is a statement from Congresswoman Kathy Hochul after the House of Representatives on Friday passed an extension of the Payroll Tax Cut for 160 million Americans:

“Today, the House of Representatives finally came together, in a bipartisan manner, and voted to support a middle-class tax cut for 160 million middle-class American families.  This crucial tax relief will save the average American $1,000 each year, and save the average New Yorker $1,100 each year.

“While today’s vote will provide critical tax savings to Western New York’s families, it is long overdue.  Our constituents are tired of Washington’s partisan bickering, and today’s extension should have come last year before Congress recessed for the holidays.

“This common sense, bipartisan compromise is exactly the type of deal the American people deserve from us, and we owe them no less.”
