WEST SENECA, NY ( WKBW ) A hit and run crash killed a West Seneca teenager, leaving a woman facing serious charges.
18 year old Ryan Purcell was walking down Seneca Street early Saturday morning when police say he was struck and killed by an SUV.
Police say that vehicle was driven by 29 year old Lori Maciejewski. She has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and failure to keep right. Police tracked her down and arrested her 12 hours after Purcell was struck.
In an emotional interview with Eyewitness News, Ryan's mother stated that Maciejewski told authorities she was unaware she hit anything.
Lisa Purcell noted that the areas where people walk near the roads in West Seneca can sometimes be unsafe. Mrs. Purcell noted that she travels East and West Road daily and sees the problems.
Ryan's Father Peter Purcell said, "I'm so glad I told him I was proud of him. If there is one thing I have to say to people, yes it is the worst thing that could happen."
Lisa joined Peter in emphasizing that parents need to hug their kids, and tell them you love them everyday. You never know when it is going to be the last time.
Ryan was on his way back home after walking his girlfriend home.
Maciejewski is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failure to keep right.
