NORTH TONAWANDA, NY (WKBW) - An early morning fire Saturday tore through the 90-year-old Elks Lodge on Main Street in North Tonawanda Saturday.
The fire destroyed the building and put a kink in one couple's wedding plans and affected a toy drive.
A wedding reception had been planned for Saturday afternoon at the lodge, and family had spend most of the previous night setting up for it.
The fire that gutted the building destroyed DJ and catering equipment that had been set up for the reception.
Also destroyed were countless toys that were being stored there for the 'Rockin' with Santa' toy drive that was scheduled to take place at the lodge Saturday night.
The event raises money and gathers toys for needy families in the Twin Cities area, so they can enjoy unwrapping a gift on Christmas.
The wedding reception was moved to a fire hall in North Tonawanda, while the Rockin' with Santa fundraiser was moved to the American Legion post on Main Street in the City of Tonawanda.
The fundraiser features live music, food and drinks, raffles and more, and anyone looking to help out a need family can drop off an unwrapped toy for ages 0-16 or make a cash donation. The event runs through 1:00 a.m.
