Higgins Announces $71,000 in Federal Funding for Roswell Park

March 11, 2013 Updated Mar 11, 2013 at 3:04 PM EDT

Congressman Brian Higgins announced that researchers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute have been awarded a grant from the National Cancer Institute for $71,980 for a project to study invasive breast cancer.

“In order to make real progress in cancer research, funding must be sustained over the long-term,” said Congressman Higgins a member of the House of Representatives’ Cancer Caucus. “I am pleased that Roswell Park has once again been awarded federal funding to work toward a cure for breast cancer.”

The funding will be used by a team of researchers, led by Dr. Christine Ambrosone, to determine whether different categories of breast cancer will have a more aggressive course and, for the types of breast cancer that are more aggressive, what the risk factors, tumor characteristics, and survival rates are.
