BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Experts say there are more than 150,000 new heroin users a year.
It's an alarming problem in Western New York and all throughout the country.

However, lately, drug addiction has become more prevalent in suburban areas: among kids growing up in nice homes, going to private schools, and attending prestigious colleges.

John Donavan, from Amherst, has been a drug addict for over 10 years and is now in a recovery program.

He says his life spiraled out of control when he first began experimenting with perscription drugs at that age of 14 which then transitioned into a heroin addiction.

It's a patten experts say they are seeing more and more frequently among addicts.

On the street, a bag of heroin costs $4, compared to one oxycontin pill that costs $80.

If you have an addiction program there is help out there.
