Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - This is the fourth straight day where temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees. Experts are warning people not only about the heat but also the humidity.
The American Red Cross is advising people to stay hydrated by drinking water and plenty of fluids. They also say wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light colored clothing.
Although the heat and humidity may be unbearable to some Western New Yorkers, others are embracing he heat and enjoying their time outside.
"Look I'm 62 years old, there's no way back, almost 63 I love it, I enjoy it and that's why I'm here," Buffalo Resident Leon Mitchell said.
Even at the Buffalo zoo, two of the newest Buffalo residents are adjusting to summer life. Polar Bears Luna and Kully have to deal with more tropical weather than they are used to.
"Normally we'll keep them locked outside when the temperature is fine, if it's super hot like this we'll give them access so if they want to go into the fanned area they can go in there and escape the heat for a little while," Zookeeper Caitlyn Bruce said.
Zookeepers are giving the bears their fair share of ice cubes, pool time and even a little air conditioning.
